Questa è Bologna, città medievale dai risvolti affascinanti, tradizionalmente accompagnata da quattro aggettivi che svelano la sua originale poliedricità:
Bologna la dotta, la rossa, la grassa e la turrita.
La dotta, in quanto sede della più antica Università occidentale,
la rossa, per le sfumature di rosso e ocra che colorano
le mura, le case, e i palazzi medievali,
dando un'atmosfera calda e suggestiva alla città ;
la grassa, per a una antica tradizione enogastronomica che vede le donne delle famiglie bolognesi doc, esperte a lavorare a mano la pasta e ai fornelli. Molte di queste donne cucinano solo per la famiglia, altre, le famose sfogline, operano nelle cucine dei tradizionali ristoranti bolognesi.
la Turrita per le quasi duecento torri che nel suo illustre passato svettavano in cielo.
In passato le famiglie benestanti costruivano le torri per resistere ad assalti e ruberie di nemici: la torre degli Asinelli e la Garisenda, le cosiddette “Due Torri” ancora oggi il simbolo che rappresenta Bologna nel mondo, sono fra le ultime visibili a colpo d’occhio, ma non le uniche rimaste integre.
Per i più arditi è possibile salirci percorrendo 498 gradini,
la vista dall'alto è imperdibile.

I canali
... Bologna è ricca di canali, che in altri tempi servivano per l’approvigionamento di acqua usata per lavorare la seta
di cui era grandissima produttrice;
ora l’acqua non si vede più, se non in alcuni punti,
ma un tempo Bologna non era troppo diversa da Venezia,
… l'acqua però ma non è sparita,
è solo nascosta sotto terra, ci sono itinerari guidati
che aiutano a riscoprire le antiche vie d'acqua,
la Salara, il porto, i canali ancora visibili nel centro della città.
I portici
… Bologna nel solo centro storico ha quasi 40 km di portici decorati nel tempo in tutti gli stili, dal romanico al Liberty.
In caso di maltempo a Bologna si può quasi evitare l'ombrello!
Le botteghe
...Le antiche botteghe e osterie bolognesi
sono cariche di fascino, aneddoti e leggende,
conservano arredi, oggetti, strumenti di un tempo,
ma soprattutto un'atmosfera autentica ed originale.)

Bologna ha sicuramente una ricca tradizione legata al passato
ma oggi è anche un centro famoso in tutto il mondo per design e tecnologia dei motori;

si possono raggiungere il Museo Ducati (Bologna),
Ferrari (Maranello), Maserati (Modena),
Lamborghini (Sant'Agata Bolognese).

This is Bologna, a medieval city with fascinating aspects,
traditionally accompanied by four adjectives
that reveal its original versatility:
Bologna "la dotta" (the learned), "la rossa" (the red),
"la grassa" (the fat) and "la turrita" (the towered).
The learned, for its University which was founded in 1088.
It is the oldest University in Western Countries.
The red, for the warm shades of red and ochre that color the walls, houses, roofs and medieval buildings,
which give a warm attractive atmosphere to the city;
The fat, for the ancient culinary tradition that sees women of traditional families experienced in doing home made tortellini and tagliatelle. Many of these women are cooking just for the family, other, the famous "sfogline" (pasta makers), work in the kitchens of traditional restaurants of the city.
The towered, for the almost 200 towers that were present in the past: wealthy families built the towers to withstand assaults and robberies of enemies. The Towers of the Asinelli and the Garisenda are the last visible at a glance, but not the only ones left intact, the so are called the “Due Torri” (two towers) which are still today the symbol that represents Bologna in the world.
For the most daring it is possible to climb Asinelli tower (498 steps), the view from the top is a must!
But that's not all ...
The canals
... Bologna is full of canals, which in the past were used for the supply of water, used to work the silk that Bologna was great producer; now the water is no longer visible, with the exception of some places, but in the past, Bologna was not too different from Venice.
... but the water it's not disappeared,
It's just hidden under the ground, there are guided tours that help you to rediscover the ancient waterways, the Salara, the port, the canals are still visible in the city center.
The porticoes
… Bologna has almost 40 km of arcades decorated over time in all styles, from Romanesque to Art Nouveau. In case of bad weather in Bologna you can almost avoid the umbrella!
The old traditional shops
... The old shops and taverns of Bologna are full of charm, anecdotes and legends, they preserve the furnishings, objects and tools of the past, but above all an authentic and original atmosphere.
The motor Valley
Bologna certainly has a rich tradition of the past, but today is also a world famous center for engine design and technology;
along the Via Emilia a route to discover the most important factories and museums dedicated to engines such as Ferrari (Maranello), Maserati (Modena), Lamborghini (Sant'Agata Bolognese), Ducati (Bologna) and others.
